Trauma's impact

One thing to remember about trauma is, it changes you, forever.

Some memories fade but some scars and emotions can remain.

And it can sneak up on you when you least expect it.

A memory.

A dream.

A nightmare.

A comment - (trigger words)

A smell even.

All can tail spin you to remember. To feel.

Sometimes Its memories that surface and we are emotionally detached from the experiences. We’re okay.

Other times it can feel real again.

And sometimes you can feel completely distant from the experience almost as if you ONLY saw it happen to you. Which meant that some situations you may have dissociated yourself as a form of protection.

If you are working towards healing remember, it’s a memory. Don’t push it away or make yourself numb (food, alcohol, drugs). Write down your feelings. Talk with someone.

If you know someone who has experienced trauma, be kind. Seek to understand, not judge. Learn from them.

Healing is not linear. You are not crazy or not “normal”. I want to say it again, healing is not linear. I personally find it to be a continued journey.

Take care of you too.
